Former KDHS b-ballers lighting it up
Lady Lakers basketball team crowned tournament champions
Posted 2 months ago
Three former Kapuskasing District High School basketball players are making an impact for their university, as Agnes Plourde-Doran, Mabel Plourde-Doran, Natasha Guertin and the rest of the Nipissing Lady Lakers netted their first championship at the University of Toronto extramural tournament this past week.
The final saw the Lakers stomp their U of T opponents 42-20 in front of a large, and loud, home
town crowd.
Led by captain's Agnes Plourde-Doran and Rebecca Crosby, the tournament was a glowing success for the Lakers with every player contributing offensively and a tremendous team defense that consistently wore down opponents.
The team finished the tournament with a record of 3 -1.
In only their second year of operation, the Lakers are quickly gaining a reputation and are eager to prove themselves again at their next tournament in January. In the meantime, the women's program has been invited to participate in exhibition games with OCAA varsity teams from the Greater Toronto Area.
The Nipissing Lady Lakers have won their first tournament in just their second year of operation.
