Smooth Rock Falls is ready to welcome one of the biggest names in Canadian country music to the Reg Lamy Cultural Centre next weekend.
Michelle Wright is easily one of the country's most widely recognised female country singers, and a two-time recipient of the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) Fans' Choice Entertainer Of The Year Award.
She has more than 25 charted singles, including the Number One hits "Take It Like a Man", "One Time Around", "Guitar Talk", "One Good Man", "Nobody's Girl" and "Crank My Tractor". She also had chart success in the United States in the early 1990s, landing in the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts with "Take It Like a Man" at #10 and "He Would Be Sixteen" at #31.
She is also no stranger to this region.
“When I was still playing bars, in the old days, I played in Hearst and Kap, and I played the Maple Leaf in Timmins,” she said, adding that for 14 years her mother lived in Sudbury so she was a regular visitor to Northern Ontario.
Ms Wright said folks in Smooth Rock Falls will be treated to a top-notch show featuring her full band and stage show.
“They’re going to get a high energy, contemporary country show — we’re going to have a great time!” she told The Times on Monday.
Tickets are $35 each and are available in Kap at Eastview Motors, Val Albert Motors and CKGN; in Hearst at Expert Garage; in Smooth Rock at Caisse Populaire, Chez Réal and Smoothies; in Cochrane at Heaveners Confectionary; in Iroquois Falls at Dumont Petro Canada; and in Matheson at the Dodge dealership.
