Abundant Life Christian Fellowship Lead Pastor, Jason Burt (left) was joined by Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP Guy Bourgouin and several congregation members on Saturday to officially open the doors of Kapuskasing’s new Life Centre.

In a little less than a year, the new Life Centre located at the Abundant Life Christian Fellowship (ALCF) officially opened its doors this past Saturday.

“This is something that has been in the works for a long time,” said ALCF Lead Pastor, Jason Burt. “The idea was originally discussed about 30 years ago. About four years ago we decided to actually sit down and see how we could make that dream a reality and here we are today.”

Burt says the vision for the centre is simple.

“We want this centre to be a multi-functional facility to serve the community,” he explained. “At its base, Sunday mornings it will be our children’s wing. During the week it will house our outreach student program for kids in Gr. 6 – Gr. 8.

“Other than that, we have a whole bunch of ideas for what else we can do with the centre. We want to start a community kitchen for those in need of a hot meal, which is why we also included a commercial grade kitchen as part of the renovations and construction. That’s our first project and there are many more ideas that we intend to examine in the future.

“We built this centre to do exactly what its name would indicate – to breathe life into people and breathe life into our community because we’re all about love in Kapuskasing. I’d like to thank everyone who helped make this dream a reality. We’re very excited about it.”
