KAPUSKASING – The  annual Cinderella's Closet event hosted by Rooted Youth Ministries and Abundant Life offered up a variety of dresses to graduating girls for free on May 11 and 12.

Taking place at the Model City Mall this year, organizer Sarah Coombs said the event was successful.

“It was a bit quieter this year then in years previous, but we gave away ten dresses, and I received some calls this morning for more people wanting to come and see them,” Coombs said. “So things went well, we had tons of donations made this year.”

The event marked the fourth year Cinderella's Closet was held.

“It's put on by the Rooted Youth girls, they help to make it happen, and we receive donations from people in the community, then find a location,” Coombs said.

“Thankfully the Mall has been very generous for the past three years, and allow us to set up in an empty store. From there girls get to stop by and pick out a graduation dress for free.”

She said the dresses were available to anyone graduating, be it a grade 8 graduation, grade 12, or even post-secondary education.

“We want to offer dresses to anyone who's graduating and needs one.”

Coombs said that all leftover dresses are placed in storage to be brought out again the following year.

“I would like to say thank you to the community for being so generous,” she said. “It seems every year people want to offer more and more.”
