KAPUSKASING - It was a busy week for the students participating in the Royal Canadian Legion's Public Speaking competition as the week held both the Branch level and Zone level competition in Kapuskasing.

Taking place on Tuesday, March 6, students from St.Patrick's school and Diamond Jubilee Public School (DJPS) gave their speeches at Legion Branch 85 for the Branch level of the contest.

Taking the top spots during the evening and progressing to the next round was Natalie Robichaud in the Primary Division, Jared Duncan in the Junior division, and Macy Piché in the Intermediate division.

Unfortunately due to schedule conflicts and being out of town, Jared Duncan was unable to participate in the Zone competition held on March 10, with second place contestant Steven Anderson competing instead.

The Zone level competition saw participants from Kapuskasing, Hornepayne, and Hearst give their speeches to the audience and judges.
The results were:

Primary:
1: Hailey Lin
2: Natalie Robichaud
3: Collin Mackie-Sauder

Junior
1: Terra Dasti
2: Steven Anderson

Intermediate
1: Macy Piché
2: Hannah Boulet
3: Myka Paul

The first place winners in each division will be heading to Elliot Lake later this month to compete in the District level of the competition.
