Sweeps all around in first round of GNML playoffs

 The Kapuskasing Eastview Chev RV Flyers and the Timmins Majors are moving on to the second round of the Great North Midget League playoffs, after both teams swept their respective first-round opponents two games to none over the weekend.

 

On Friday, the Flyers were in New Liskeard for game one of their series against the Cubs.

 

The Kap club would open the scoring in the first period on a goal by Mathieu Parent, then get two more in the second frame compliments of captain Jacob Comeau and assistant Jared Dupuis in a 3-0 win.

 

Comeau led the Flyers in scoring with two points, while Sebastien Plamondon picked up the shutout in net.

 

Saturday, the Flyers were in the friendly confines of the Kap RCC for game two. 

 

There, it would Martin Poisson opening the scoring for the Model Towners, followed by Dupuis picking up his second and third goals of the post-season and Samuel Vachon and Parent each picking up singles in a 5-1 win.

 

Plamondon was once again between the pipes in the victory.

 

The Timmins Majors earned two straight victories by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 over the Soo Major Midget Greyhounds to move on.

 

Next up for the Flyers is a best-of-five series against the second-place Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves, while the Majors take on the North Bay Major Trappers.

Games one and two of the Flyers/Wolves series take place in Sudbury this weekend.
