OK Tire Kapswim Tops in Hearst, multiple podiums in Sault

Swimmers made signs and cheered on Danika Ethier, Sarah Ethier, and Madison Smith who qualified for various finals for the 13 and over swimmers during the weekend. To qualify for finals, swimmers needed to finish top 8 in the preliminary rounds.

 For the second consecutive meet, the OK Tire Kapswim team finished first overall in their standings.  The team competed in Hearst last weekend and beat 4 other clubs by grabbing a total of 85 podiums. 41 of its swimmers made the trip.

 

 

On the girls’ side, Audrey Lepage led the way by finishing first in all of her individual events. Other podium winners were: Audrée Dallaire (1), Carley Dambrowitz (4), Danika Ethier (6), Sarah Ethier (5), Raphaelle Gendron (3), Mackenzie Isaac (1), Madison Johnson (5), Kaylee LaSalle (6), Emily Laurin (4), Jodie Laurin (1), Myriam Lepage (2), Madison Smith (6) and Laurence Trottier (6).

 

 

On the boys’ side, Nicola Girouard and Ryley Casonato both earned 6 podiums, followed by Matthew Bouffard (4), Jacob Girouard (3) and Maxime Mercier (1).

 

 

Relay teams also won 9 ribbons.

 

 

Other highlights of the weekend: Claudie Audras took 17 seconds off her 100 IM, Danelle Brisson 9 off her 100 free, Tessa Dambrowitz 2 off her 100 back, Leah Henderson 13 off her 100 back, Abby LaSalle 6 off her 100 back, Gabrielle Morissette 11 off her 200 free, Olivia Reedhead 9 off her 50 breast, Sophie Renaud 10 off her 100 back, Jenna Roy 9 off her 200 breast, and Kyana Sandford 4 off her 50 back. Brooke Silk had 5 top 10 finishes, while Marie-Neige Gendron missed 3rd place in the 200 IM by a mere 0.25 seconds.

 

 

Swimming in their first official meet of the season were Ryan Bouffard, Felix Lepage, Owen Mackenzie, Kate Chmilewski, Emma Côté, Sadie McGregor, Madison Mombourquette, Annabelle Nadeau, Alexa Ouimette and Harley Taylor-Parent. These swimmers have now set base times they will try to beat at their next meet.

 

15 swimmers who earned qualifying times for this season’s A-Champs, came back from Sault-Ste-Marie last weekend with extra confidence and motivation to finish off their season in style.  Overall, the team grabbed 12 podiums while competing against 13 other clubs from the North.

 

 

Audrey Lepage earned 5 podiums, Nicola Girouard 2, Madison Smith 2, Kaylee LaSalle and Madison Johnson each had 1.  Girls’ 4 x 50 IM relay team consisting of Laurence Trottier, Audrée Dallaire, Emily Laurin and Johnson won bronze in their event.

 

 

Other highlights of the weekend:  Jacob Girouard earned four top 5 finishes while Marie-Neige Gendron finished 10th in the 50 back event. Ryley Casonato took 1 second off his 50 fly, Danika Ethier 7 off her 800 free, Sarah Ethier 2 off her 200 back, Raphaelle Gendron 2 off her 200 IM, and Myriam Lepage 1 off her 100 back.

 

 

Up next for the OK Tire swim team: Danika Ethier, Laurence Trottier and Kaylee LaSalle will travel to Nepean on Family Day weekend to compete in the Ontario Winter Festival Championships. All three met qualifying times needed to compete against the best in the province.

 

Also coming up, some 12 and under swimmers will have the chance to compete in the second Top Fish event of the season in Kirkland Lake on February 25th.
