October 25, 2017 On October 17th, 18th and 19th Staff members and community partners affiliated with the Northeastern Catholic District’s School Board’s Indigenous Education Advisory Council participated in the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Center’s Indigenous Cultural Competency Training (ICCT).
The goals of the ICCT sessions are for organizations to obtain the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes and values in order to foster meaningful and informed relationships with the Indigenous community.
The Métis Nation of Ontario was present at the ICCT sessions to provide a Métis lens/perspective to the information presented as well as to offer a toolkit containing services and supports to educators to further enhance their abilities to recognize and support Métis students in their classrooms.
“The NCDSB is taking steps to address the Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls to action around education and training. We are committed to ensuring all staff within the NCDSB have the opportunity to participate in the ICCT session by the end of next year. This will further enhance the knowledge of our staff members while creating stronger relationships with our community partners,” said Kristine Arthur – Supervisor of Indigenous Education.
