It’s a day George A. Romero fans and more recently fans of the television show “The Walking Dead” have looked forward to every year for the last three years.
If for only one day, Kapuskasing and area zombie enthusiasts will have the opportunity to become “walkers” as the Third Annual Zombie Walk hits the streets of the Model Town on Oct. 21.
Dubbed Zombie Walk 3.0, this year’s event will serve as a fundraiser for the Kapuskasing Food Bank.
“Organization of the walk is going well,” said Jennifer Coghill, who has spearheaded the walk since its inception here in Kap. “We could always use more volunteers, but so far things have been good.”
Some changes are coming to this year’s walk, including a change of route.
“The ‘loop’ seemed a little long for the kids participating so we’re switching it up to a shorter route,” said Coghill. “We’re also getting the ‘Healthy Kids’ group involved.”
Another change, she commented, will be with regards to the “quarantine zones”.
“The quarantine zones are going to have little prizes for people that go into the stores,” she explained. “We want people to be more involved with that aspect of the walk.”
Also new, will be a Halloween dance, which will be held on Oct. 28 at La Forge. The event is an age of majority event and will feature prizes for the best costumes and a cash bar.
Tickets are $10 each and are currently available by messaging Coghill, Marissa Reedhead or Marianne Lemon Michaud on Facebook. Any leftover tickets will be sold at the door.
Anyone wishing to volunteer for the event can contact Jennifer Coghill on Facebook.
