SMOOTH ROCK FALLS - The municipality of Smooth Rock Falls launched its new rebranded image on Sept.27 during a launch event.

As part of the municipality's strategic plan, the community premiered a new logo, tagline, and website alongside a variety of incentives.
“We thought it was time to change our image and to project ourself to the world, and tell them where we are and what we have to offer, and that was the best way we thought we could do it,” said Smooth Rock Mayor Michel Arseneault.
He said that the change came about as an way to modernize the community and show its new focus.
“Our logo now is more modern and represents us now better than our old one, and our tagline 'Near North, near perfect' is new to us and we're very excited about both,” Arseneault said. “ It brings us into the modern era, our logo was really old and outdated and it didn't really represent us anymore because it was a pine tree which represented the forestry industry which we're no longer dependent on since our mill closure. So we thought we had to make a change to show the world what we have to offer here in Smooth Rock Falls and the qualities of life here with our various sports facilities, and our amazing hospital and doctors.”
Also revealed at the event was a variety of community incentives as a way to show people what can be offered in Smooth Rock.
“For someone who wants to move to Smooth Rock Falls, we have some residential incentives,” Arseneault said.
These include:
-Land offered for up to 90 per cent below market value; serviced land in town and on the golf course can be purchased for $500.
•Enormous tax breaks for new homeowners over three years: 100 per cent the first year, 75 per cent the second year and 25 per cent the third year.
Other incentives revealed include some commercial economic boons:
-Economic development incentives for business owners: loans or grants up to a maximum of 15 per cent of eligible costs, up to a maximum of a million dollarsW
-Loan guarantees for residential and non-residential construction projects up to 50 per cent of construction costs: up to a maximum of $100,000 for residential and $500,000 for non-residential projects/
-A generous Tax Increment Grant Program for businesses, including: a 75 per cent rebate in year one, 50 per cent rebate in year two and 25 per cent rebate in year three
“We also have smaller incentives such as helping local commercial businesses we can lend them a few thousand dollars for signage and such, so its all incentives to attract people to come live in Smooth Rock.”
Arseneault said that the launch event went well, with people sharing in happiness and excitement.
“We're very excited to be able to finally put ourselves out there and let people know what we have and what we can do for them.”
