Visiting the Centre de Santé
The morning's activities focused around the different aspects of being healthy.Mental health, physical health, and healthy eating were all covered through a different game or activity.
Students from the junior kindergarten and kindergarten classes in André Cary visited the Centre de Santé on May 31 in order to learn more about health and careers in health.
During the morning activities over 45 participants were in attendance, 30 of which were the students from Anne Fournier-Dumais' class.
“We've invited the kids to visit the Centre de Santé so they can learn what it is to be healthy,” said Community Health Worker Danielle Groulx. “We had our health promoter, myself, and our mental health worker all working in tandem to teach the students about global health through a variety of activities.”
Some of which included games such as naming a healthy item such as a water bottle from within a bag, memory games, and an obstacle course.
“We focused on discussing healthy habits and behaviors in children,” Groulx said. “So we talked about healthy food choices, physical activity, and we focused on self esteem and mental health.”
The morning culminated with the students staying for lunch, Groulx said.
“Our dietician is preparing mac and cheese but there's some secret ingredients in there that they will learn about afterwards.”
