It was a bloody fashion crime that even Don Cherry is pleading guilty to.

But this wardrobe malfunction — with millions of witnesses from around the world of hockey — was certainly an accident.

What it looked like was a white jacket covered in blood stains.

“I had no idea how it looked when I put it on,” the Coach’s Corner icon said of the now famous suit jacket that would make even a homicide cop blush.

Cherry said had he “realized how it would look on TV, with the way things are today,” he never would have worn it.

“I didn’t realize it until (co-host Ron) MacLean said something,” he said. “But I really knew after when I saw it on TV. I knew it didn’t look to good.

"It did look like splattered blood to me, too. I thought it looked grotesque.”

Needless to say, those on Twitter, Facebook and other social media jumped all over his clothing choice.

“My son Tim was telling me they were calling me Dexter,” said Cherry of the famous TV show. “I also saw people say it was the result from me murdering the English language for so long.”

Cherry laughed while reading the autopsy results of his suit jacket.

“I am glad people are having fun with it and not taking it too seriously,” he said. “I just thought it was a different kind of suit jacket that was neat and really didn’t think about it. But I see now that it was not the right choice.”

Grapes said he ordered it — with the help of his wife, Luba — online and paid for it himself.

“I think it came from Germany or somewhere. I liked it at first,” he said.

No more foreign suits for Don the rest of the playoffs. He’ll stick with Canadian.

“I will never be wearing that jacket on Coach’s Corner again — I guarantee you.”
