Bowmanville man charged friend's death after accidentally running him over
A 21-year-old Bowmanville man was charged after police say he inadvertently ran over and killed his friend after trying to get him medical help.
The man and his friend were parked in a GMC pickup truck allegedly taking “narcotics” on Symons Rd., south of Baseline Rd., around 4:30 p.m., Durham Regional Police Sgt. Bill Calder said.
The 29-year-old passenger suffered an “unexpected medical episode” and became unresponsive, Calder said.
The man removed his friend from the truck and began resuscitation efforts before taking off in the truck to call for help.
When he returned, he accidentally ran over his friend who was still lying on the roadway, police allege.
The friend was rushed to hospital by ambulance but he died from his injuries, Calder said.
Zachary Pepper was charged with impaired care or control of a motor vehicle causing death.
