Jeremy Renner mistook Mark Hamill for a homeless man at the British premiere of Captain America: Civil War.
Jeremy, who plays Hawkeye in the superhero movie, was signing autographs for fans gathered at the event at the Westfield London shopping centre, when the 64-year-old Star Wars actor approached him.
However, the action star didn’t recognize his childhood hero Mark, who played Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy of Star Wars films, as he was sporting a rather different look.
“There were thousands of people and we were signing autographs and I turn around and I see this guy and his beard and I thought it was some homeless guy, I was like ‘what’s this guy doing here?’” Jeremy told late night TV host Jimmy Fallon. “We went backstage like two minutes later and I realize it’s Mark Hamill, like Luke Skywalker, but he had this tremendous beard.”
When the 45-year-old star did finally get to meet the science-fiction icon, he admitted the extent of his youthful Star Wars obsession, and revealed to Jimmy that he had informed Mark he had a pair of Luke Skywalker underwear.
Jeremy’s admission was a muted reaction in comparison to his Captain America castmate Elizabeth Olsen, as he says, “Elizabeth was crying, she was just weeping over it (meeting Mark). It was tremendous and he is a really great human.”
Captain America: Civil War appears to be well on its way to box office success, earning $20.9 million in its first weekend in U.K cinemas.
The Marvel movie is released in the U.S. on Friday.
