Duchess Kate Middleton tours the set of Downton Abbey
Downton Abbey cook Lesley Nicol presented a cake to pregnant British royal Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge during her visit to the show’s set in London on Thursday.
Nicol, who plays head chef Mrs. Patmore in the British TV drama, and her co-star Sophie McSera, who portrays kitchen maid Daisy, treated the Duchess to a chocolate cake topped with the show’s logo during her tour of Ealing Studios, where the show’s interior scenes are filmed.
The Twitter.com account for Kensington Palace published a picture of the trio meeting in Downton’s kitchen set and added, “Mrs Patmore lesley—nicol and Daisy baked a delicious chocolate cake to commemorate today’s visit to DowntonAbbey.”
However, Nicol had to tell the royal she had not baked the cake herself, because unlike her character, she is no good in the kitchen. She reveals, “I had to tell her that I didn’t make it, though. Believe it or not, I can’t actually cook a thing! I think the Duchess really enjoyed herself. We knew before she came that she was a fan of the show and she clearly knew a lot about what we did... I really hope she has just gone home for a cup of tea and put her feet up. It was a long time for her to be walking around on the set with that (baby) bump.”
During her visit, the Duchess met stars of the show including Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt and creator Julian Fellowes, and toured the costume, props and production design departments.
She also watched a scene being filmed, joined a cast photograph and unveiled a gold plaque marking her visit.
Catherine is due to give birth to her second child with Prince William in April.
