On the eve of her husband's funeral, an Australian widow discovered she was pregnant with their child.
Kristy Kercher's husband Royce was killed in a car accident Oct. 8, just five days after she completed her first round of in vitro fertilization, according to her YouTube channel, where Kercher had documented the couple's efforts to conceive a baby ever since they got married in September 2007.
The night before Royce was to be buried, Kercher couldn't sleep and decided to take a pregnancy test, which was positive.
She broke the news in a video.
"I'm pregnant -- this is not how I was supposed to be telling this story," she said through tears, adding she was certain Royce died knowing the news.
"And even though we hadn't taken a test to confirm pregnancy, he knew we were pregnant. He was kissing my belly, he was already saying 'I love you both.'"
She has already named the unborn child Pacey - after Royce's love for the Chrysler Valiant Pacer.
Friends have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help Kercher cover her costs for the funeral, the IVF and ongoing bills. More than $21,000 has been raised so far on the GoFundMe page.
"Thanks for all your help," Kercher wrote on the site. "One day I will be showing this all to Pacey and that little child will know how many people wanted him or her to be okay, and how loved its daddy must have been to receive so much love and help."
