OTTAWA - A former NDP staffer has launched a $194,000 lawsuit against NDP MP Sylvain Chicoine, alleging she was wrongly dismissed after being harassed by another staffer.
In a statement of claim filed in the Ontario Superior Court on Friday, Fabiola Ferro alleges she endured "grotesque, degrading and offensive comments" at the hands of David Cimon, who had a "sexist attitude."
She claims he was critical of her work, and was told that she should take on a greater workload because she was a woman without children.
The claims have not been proven in court.
In a conversation with QMI Agency's sister network TVA, Chicoine explained Ferro had complained to her union about the behaviour, but that an investigation found there was no basis to her claim and dismissed it.
"The employee did not accept this decision," a senior NDP offical told QMI Agency.
Ferro was given 30 days to file an official grievance but failed to. The party gave Ferro the option of returning to another office to resume her duties. She apparently declined, walking away from the party until filing documents with the Ontario Superior Court Friday.
