It turns out Ontario's agriculture minister and premier, Kathleen Wynne, really can ride a tractor. But the Tories aren't too pleased about her attention to farm safety.
After a visit to a Paris, Ont., farm Tuesday, where Wynne rode a tractor with farmer Sandra Vos sitting alongside, the Ontario PCs issued a press release tsk-tsking the Liberal leader for setting "a very bad example." Hitching a ride on a tractor might be common practice for many farmers, but it's a dangerous activity, the Tories indicated.
The release cited statistics of tractor deaths in Ontario — 250 people killed on farms over 15 years, with many of those attributed to passengers falling from the machines.
"As the minister of agriculture, Kathleen Wynne should set a good example by following all safety guidelines," the release preached.
