MONTREAL — Quebecor Inc. CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau has been appointed chairman of the board of Hydro-Quebec, Canada's largest power utility.

He will join the Crown corporation on May 15, a week after he ends his 14-year run as president and CEO of the company that his father founded in 1950.

Quebecor is the parent company of Sun Media and QMI Agency.

Peladeau's mandate at Hydro-Quebec is expected to last five years.

He had announced his departure as Quebecor's chief executive on March 14.

Peladeau will remain the media company's largest shareholder and he will assume a new position as chairman of Quebecor Media Inc. (QMI) and of TVA Group.

He has also been named vice-chairman of the board at parent company Quebecor Inc.
